Kate has become the royal everyone wants to see:

Speaking to People, Mayer, author of ‘Divide & Rule: Royal Women and Their Battles,’ described the Princess of Wales as the royal family’s modern-day “rockstar.”

“Kate is the closest they have to a rockstar member these days, and she’s the one everyone wants to see,” Mayer said. “That’s a huge burden for anyone to carry, let alone someone who has had existential battles with her health.”

The comments reflect the enormous public interest surrounding Kate’s return after she stepped back from royal duties during her cancer treatment. Every appearance, from Trooping the Colour to Wimbledon, has drawn global attention, with many viewing her presence as a reassuring symbol of stability for the monarchy.

Continuing her recovery after cancer:

Kate announced on January 14, 2025, that she was in remission, while emphasizing that recovery would remain an ongoing process.

“I remain focussed on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal,” she shared at the time.

Since then, the Princess has also spoken candidly with cancer patients and their families about the emotional impact of treatment.

“I know how hard it was for the children and my parents,” Kate told the partner of a patient celebrating the completion of chemotherapy. “You go through it with them.”

She also acknowledged the loved ones who support patients throughout their journey, adding, “I know it’s just as hard for families and loved ones.”

Those deeply personal conversations have become an important part of her gradual return to public life, reinforcing her commitment to causes close to her own experience.

A carefully planned return to royal duties:

Rather than immediately resuming a full-time royal schedule, Kate has gradually increased her public engagements while continuing to prioritize her health and family.

Recent months have included several high-profile appearances and charitable initiatives. She traveled to Reggio Emilia, Italy, for her first official overseas engagement since completing cancer treatment, where she continued championing early childhood development. Prince William later revealed that she returned home inspired and eager to continue working on the project.

The Princess also completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in support of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, the hospital where she received treatment, and joined King Charles at a cancer-focused reception recognizing campaigners and advocates.

She has also resumed domestic engagements, including supporting England’s women’s rugby team during a solo visit. Away from official duties, Kate has enjoyed several public family moments with Prince William and their children.

What’s next for the Princess of Wales?

While Kate’s calendar continues to grow, royal experts believe she will remain selective about the engagements she accepts.

Kate Middleton is expected to take on a carefully selected program of royal engagements throughout the remainder of 2026.

Among the most anticipated events is the 2026 Earthshot Prize Awards in Mumbai this November, where she is expected to join Prince William for what would be her first Earthshot ceremony since 2022. Reports have also suggested the trip could include a stop in Delhi.

Royal watchers have also speculated about a future visit to Australia following a recent meeting with Australian philanthropist Nicola Forrest at Windsor Castle. Meanwhile, online speculation has pointed to the possibility of a future trip to the United States, fueled in part by Kate’s recent embrace of several American fashion designers.

The Princess of Wales continues balancing her royal responsibilities while prioritizing her recovery and family life.

Alongside international travel, the Princess is expected to continue expanding her work on early childhood development, a cause aides say she hopes to elevate globally in the years ahead.

Royal author Robert Jobson has also noted that despite her increasing workload, Kate is unlikely to return to the pace of engagements she maintained before her diagnosis, with her schedule continuing to be carefully managed as she focuses on her long-term recovery.

For now, the Princess of Wales appears determined to balance her growing royal responsibilities with her health and family life, while carrying the heightened expectations that come with being one of the monarchy’s most popular figures.
