Melania Trump’s absence from the state funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham has become one of the most talked-about moments surrounding the farewell to one of Donald Trump’s closest political allies.
While President Trump attended Tuesday’s service at Washington National Cathedral and delivered a eulogy honoring the longtime South Carolina senator, the First Lady was notably absent, marking her second high-profile Washington event in recent days that she has skipped without a public explanation.
Trump was joined during the ceremony by Vice President JD Vance, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Eric Trump, Lara Trump and White House aide Natalie Harp, among other political leaders and international dignitaries. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy were also among those in attendance.

Although she did not attend the funeral, Melania publicly acknowledged Graham’s passing shortly after his death on July 11 through an official written statement released by her communications office.

My deepest condolences go to his family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his lasting legacy.”
The statement focused exclusively on paying tribute to the late senator and did not mention her whereabouts or whether she planned to attend the memorial services.
