Cazzu has officially entered a new creative era. The Argentine singer, whose real name is Julieta Cazzuchelli, has made her film debut in “Risa and the Wind Booth” (Risa y la cabina del viento), a fantasy drama that premiered on Netflix on June 3.
The project marks the first time the chart-topping artist has appeared in a feature film and adds another milestone to a career already defined by constant reinvention, as reported by Gestión.
Directed by Juan Cabral, the film combines drama, fantasy, and emotional storytelling to explore themes of loss, healing, and the search for closure. The story follows 10-year-old Risa, who discovers an abandoned telephone booth with an extraordinary power: it allows her to communicate with people who have passed away. As she helps spirits resolve unfinished business, she hopes to speak with her own father one last time, per the publication.
Cazzu Steps Into the Role of Sara
In the film, Cazzu portrays Sara, Risa’s mother, a character navigating grief while trying to support her daughter through an unimaginable loss. The role represents the singer’s first major acting project and showcases a different side of the artist known for her music career and genre-blending creativity.
Her transition into acting arrives during one of the busiest periods of her career. Alongside the film release, Cazzu continues to perform internationally as part of her successful Latinaje tour, which supports her latest album of the same name, as informed by El País.
Speaking about the character during the film’s premiere, Cazzu reflected on the connection she felt with Sara, noting that there is “a lot of Sara in Julieta and vice versa,” highlighting the personal nature of her first cinematic role, she told the publication.
An Acclaimed Argentine Production
The film brings together an impressive cast of Argentine talent, including Elena Romero, Diego Peretti, Joaquín Furriel, Graciela Borges, and Gustavo Garzón.
Before reaching Netflix audiences, “Risa and the Wind Booth” enjoyed a successful festival run. The movie premiered at the prestigious Mar del Plata International Film Festival, where it won both Best Film and Best Director, earning praise for its heartfelt storytelling and imaginative approach to grief.
Critics highlighted the film’s emotional depth, visual beauty, and ability to blend everyday experiences with magical elements. Its sensitive portrayal of loss has resonated with audiences, particularly through the perspective of a child searching for answers after tragedy.
Production took place in Ushuaia, located in Argentina’s Tierra del Fuego province, often referred to as the southernmost city in the world. The rugged Patagonian landscapes add a haunting beauty to the story and help create the film’s dreamlike atmosphere.
The movie also features an original score by legendary Argentine rock band Babasónicos, whose music enhances the film’s emotional and fantastical tone.
