Charlize Theron shared a deeply personal glimpse into her life as a mother, with a touching collection of rarely seen photos of her two daughters Jackson, 14 and August, 11 in celebration of Mother’s Day.
The Oscar-winning actress took to Instagram with a heartfelt tribute, posting a carousel of intimate family moments that span the years, from playful selfies to sun-soaked holidays and quiet, tender embraces.
Accompanying the images was a simple but powerful message that captured the essence of her journey into motherhood. “The greatest honor of my life! Happy Mother’s Day to all moms, oumas and godmothers,” she wrote, adding a purple heart emoji.
The images paint a beautifully human portrait of Charlize away from the spotlight. In one striking snap, the actress leans in close to one of her daughters, both pulling playful expressions at the camera, their bond unmistakable.
Another shows Charlize relaxing on a yacht, her daughters curled up beside her, fast asleep in a moment of pure peace and trust.
Elsewhere, the Hollywood star beams alongside her girls under a cloudless blue sky, the trio smiling brightly in a candid selfie that radiates warmth. A black-and-white image captures an especially tender moment, with Charlize embracing her daughters in a quiet display of love that speaks volumes without words.
Fans were also treated to a glimpse of family life beyond Charlize’s immediate household. One photo shows the actress with friends and loved ones, her daughters at the centre of the joyful gathering, highlighting the strong support network that surrounds them.
While Charlize has long been fiercely protective of her children’s privacy, choosing not to reveal their faces publicly in most cases, this rare insight into their shared moments felt particularly meaningful. It’s a reminder of how deliberately she balances global fame with creating a grounded, nurturing environment at home.
The South African-born star became a mother when she adopted her eldest daughter, Jackson, in 2012, followed by daughter August in 2015. Over the years, she has spoken candidly about how motherhood has transformed her life, often describing it as her most important role.
“My kids are at an age now where they actually enjoy that I’m dating because they want to be involved,” the 50-year-old actress said during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show this week.
“It’s really funny how I was scared they’d be threatened by it, and now they’re like, ‘Mom, is he texting you? Like, go on the date, mom.'”
While she may have her kids’ support, Charlize admitted she isn’t looking for a traditional relationship.
“I really mean this — people think I joke — I don’t think I could ever live with somebody again,” she told host Drew Barrymore, 51.
“I would love for you to be close, like buy the house down the street, but I don’t know if I can.”
While the actress may feel this way now, she noted her requirements could change once she becomes an empty nester.
“Maybe it’s because I still have my daughters in the house, and maybe that will change when I’m an empty nester, but I’m looking for something very specific,” she added.
When Drew replied that she loves “prioritizing my kids,” Charlize said: “It’s impossible not to. Your kids come first. They always come first.”
