Boston Blue has made Donnie Wahlberg realize it’s not easy filming in your hometown.
His beloved Blue Bloods character Danny Reagan moved over from New York City to Boston in its spin-off Boston Blue, which premiered last year.
That has meant that the New Kids on the Block member is filming in his hometown — where eager fans can sometimes get in the way of filming.
On Wednesday, April 22, Donnie appeared on LIVE with Kelly and Mark, during which he opened up about how “crazy” it is to film in Boston.
“We don’t get anything shot. Every take, I’m literally saying, ‘Give me your hand, sir, you’re under arrest,’ and it’s like, ‘Donnie! Donnie,'” he said of his interactions with fans.
“The duck boat tours, which are very famous in Boston, they drive by and have a headset on with a speaker,” he went on, adding: “And it’s literally like, ‘Over there, you’ll see Donnie Wahlberg in the wild. He grew up three doors down from me, I knew his mother, God rest her soul.'”
© FilmMagicDonnie was born in Dorchester, the son of Alma and Donald Wahlberg, who are also parents to Mark Wahlberg, and seven other children.
He has been starring as Danny since 2010, when Blue Bloods, which also starred Tom Selleck as his father, first premiered; it was canceled in 2024.
Donnie has long maintained his love and pride over the Blue Bloods universe and protecting its legacy. Speaking on CBS Sunday Mornings in October, he emphasized: “I love Blue Bloods. I fought tooth and nail to keep it on the air, and here’s an opportunity to keep this character alive,” before noting: “And suddenly when I started to look at it through that lens it was like, ‘How do I not do this?'”

Everything I’ve ever wanted, I’m doing it,” and, tearing up, maintained: “I want to work harder, I want to be worthy of the gift that so many people give me, their time and their love, it’s like, how can I not work my ass off to repay them.”
He now stars opposite Sonequa Martin-Green, who plays his new police partner Lena Silver, as well as Mika Amonsen, Ernie Hudson, Maggie Lawson, and Marcus Scribner, among others.
