Jay-Z definitely showed that his “greatest creation” remains his kids.

The rapper, 56, is in the midst of a sold out run of anniversary concerts in New York City, kicking things off at Yankee Stadium for his Reasonable Doubt 30th anniversary shows on July 10.

Joining him on stage for a surprise performance was none other than his wife and fellow musical legend Beyoncé, 44, and then later, their oldest daughter, 14-year-old Blue Ivy Carter.

Blue Ivy surprising Jay-Z’s NYC crowd

The musician, whose real name is Shawn Carter, first introduced his song “Glory,” which was written especially for his firstborn, with clips of a young Blue learning how to play the piano from her dad.

It then transitioned to the stage, with the now-teenage Blue introducing the song herself on the piano, and the “99 Problems” rapper proudly coming out on stage and introducing his “incredible” daughter.

Jay-Z’s meaningful nickname for Blue

However, he first introduced her as “Azul,” one of the family’s more rarely-used nicknames for Blue, which simply is the Spanish word for “blue.” The other nicknames they’ve used for her include Blue-Blue, Manager Blue, and Bluebie, several of those coming from her grandmother Tina Knowles alone.

Speaking of whom, Tina took to Instagram after the show to proudly gush over her granddaughter, sharing the same clip and captioning it: “This had me in tears. The close bond , love and respect that this father and daughter have for each other is contagious. Our little Blue Blue on keys.”

And fans were equally as touched. “This young lady never ceases to amaze me and their bond is beautiful,” one commented, with another adding: “The way they look at each other you can feel the love and pride. Love S.C. as a dad,” and a third also saying: “Azul! I love this so much. Blue is a star and the internet Aunties are here for it.”

Jay-Z and Blue’s close and unique bond

Jay-Z and Blue have always been incredibly close, with the rapper saying as much in a recent interview with GQ. He touched on the sexual assault allegations that were levied against him in 2024, which made the headlines the same night as the premiere for Mufasa: The Lion King, which happened to be Blue’s debut movie role.

The “Empire State of Mind” hitmaker explained that despite the mixed emotions swirling through his head at the time, “our family, we are a tight unit,” and he didn’t want to miss her big night.

He adorably referred to her as “Azul” and called her “so amazing”

Case in point: “Blue has this jersey with ‘Jay-Z’ on the back. She put it on one day. She went to school with the ‘Jay’. I was just in the corner, like tears coming down. Seriously.”

He continued: “To have that, it’s priceless. People can say that [they’ll always be there for you], but it’s very rare that you’re going to have to exercise it. And in the darkest moment for me, I got to see those sorts of things.”

“I love taking them to school. I love picking them up. Everything means so much more.”

Touching on the joys of fatherhood specifically (he and Beyoncé also share nine-year-old twins Sir and Rumi), he added: “It gives everything meaning, everything. I’ll go cross-country, do what I have to do, and I’m back on the plane that night. I love taking them to school. I love picking them up. Everything means so much more.”
