King Charles reunited with Archie and Lilibet, but one royal reunion is still missing

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s recent reunion with King Charles III marked a significant step forward in the Sussex family’s relationship with the monarch. 

The private meeting, held at Highgrove House, was the first time the siblings had seen their grandfather in four years and fueled optimism that family ties could continue to heal. One reunion, however, has yet to happen.

Despite sharing the same royal lineage, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have not developed a relationship with their California-based cousins. Years of distance, family tensions and the realities of living on opposite sides of the Atlantic have kept the next generation of royals largely apart.

Why the cousins remain apart:

Although King Charles welcomed Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Archie and Lilibet to Highgrove House during their recent visit to the United Kingdom, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s family were not part of the gathering.

As a result, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis did not see Archie and Lilibet during the trip. Royal commentators have long noted that the five children have had little opportunity to spend time together, making any meaningful cousin relationship difficult to establish.

The divide goes beyond geography. Prince William and Prince Harry have remained estranged for years, and while there have been signs of improving communication between Harry and King Charles, there has been no public indication of a similar breakthrough between the brothers.

Two very different childhoods:

As time passes, the cousins are growing up in increasingly different worlds.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are being raised in the United Kingdom as senior members of the royal family, gradually preparing for future public roles while enjoying a carefully protected childhood.

Meanwhile, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are growing up in Montecito, California, where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have prioritized privacy and a life largely away from royal duties.

The families also follow different routines. William and Kate are known for emphasizing stability, personally taking part in school runs and limiting their children’s exposure to public life. 

Harry and Meghan have likewise protected their children’s privacy, choosing to share only occasional glimpses of family life while raising them outside the royal institution.

Could the cousins meet in the future?

For now, there is no indication that a reunion between the royal cousins is imminent.

Still, King Charles’ recent meeting with Archie and Lilibet has renewed speculation that family relationships could gradually improve over time. 

If broader reconciliation between Prince William and Prince Harry eventually takes place, it could also open the door for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Archie and Lilibet to finally spend time together as cousins for the first time.
