Summer has arrived for most of Europe’s royal houses. But one estate is drawing special attention right now, not for the scale of its palace rooms or the stories tucked into its grounds, but because it’s become the backdrop for Queen Mary of Denmark’s most recent glimpse into royal life.
King Frederik X’s wife has been sharing on social media what her day-to-day looks like once official duties wind down for a moment of relaxation that’s uncommon for the rest of the year.
Where Mary steps away from protocol
During their stay, King Frederik and Queen Mary live inside the palace itself, which stays closed to the public to protect the family’s privacy. The palace gardens, though, considered gems of Danish landscaping, open on select days, letting visitors wander paths lined with meticulously kept hedges, rose gardens, and floral sculptures. Denmark’s former monarch didn’t hesitate to travel to this beloved corner of the country for a family vacation, keeping alive a summer tradition that’s followed the dynasty for generations.
