Lizzo is clearing up a years-long misunderstanding about her Instagram handle, and fans are stunned they never noticed the truth sooner. The “Good as Hell” singer jumped into the conversation after an X user admitted they had completely misread her Instagram username for years.
“just found out lizzo’s instagram name is lizzo be eating and not lizzo beating,” the fan wrote alongside a screenshot of the singer’s profile. Lizzo quickly responded with a hilarious but surprisingly heartfelt explanation.
“Fun Fact: I started my ig as a food blog when I was broke so I could eat for free but then my music blew up,” she shared in a quote tweet. The revelation instantly went viral, especially from longtime fans who never realized the playful food-inspired meaning behind the account name.
“I always read it as ‘Lizzo be eating’” a follower said, while another one shared the total opposite: “I thought it was about music beats, like Lizzo beating hits.”

The Grammy-winning artist, whose real name is Melissa Jefferson, has spent the last several years speaking candidly about health, self-image, and public scrutiny.
How much weight has Lizzo lost?
While appearing radiant and confident on recent red carpets, Lizzo has also been transparent about her wellness journey. Since January 2023, the singer has lowered her body fat by 16 percent and reduced her BMI by 10.5 points through lifestyle changes focused on balance rather than restriction.

In a deeply personal November 2025 Substack post titled “Why is everybody losing weight and what do we do? Sincerely, a person who’s lost weight,” Lizzo reflected on the pressures bigger women face in the spotlight. “I had to actively work against ‘mammy’ tropes by being hypersexual and vulgar because being a mammy by definition is being desexualized,” she wrote.
The singer continued, “We’re in an era where the bigger girls are getting smaller because they’re tired of being judged.”

Despite the physical transformation, Lizzo made it clear that she still proudly identifies as a plus-size woman. “I am still a proud big girl. Objectively Big. Over 200 pounds,” she wrote. “And I love myself as much as I’ve loved myself, no matter what the scale says.”

If your body wants bread, eat the bread. If your body wants butter, eat the butter.”
The singer also admitted her relationship with food has not always been healthy. “There have been times when I’ve undernourished myself. There have been times when I was bingeing,” she revealed. “I feel like right now, when I intuitively eat and listen to my body, that always works out for me.”
What does Lizzo eat to lose weight?
Lizzo has since shifted toward a protein-and-vegetable-heavy lifestyle after slowly reintroducing animal protein following a trip to Japan. She now prioritizes whole foods and avoids heavily processed meals whenever possible. “If it has a lot of chemicals in it, that ain’t doing s*** for you,” she said. “Avoid those kinds of foods like the plague.”
