Meet ’90s model Sarah Murdoch’s three children

Born with the surname O’Hare, Sarah Murdoch was famous well before she adopted the revered moniker belonging to the eldest son of media tycoon Rupert Murdoch. 

The British-Australian supermodel, actress, television presenter, and philanthropist tied the knot with Lachlan Murdoch in 1999, after making her own tracks in the world of entertainment. 

Earning notoriety for her 1990s modelling career, the now 53-year-old has 11 Vogue covers under her belt and a long list of campaign credits that include brands like Chanel and Ralph Lauren. She has also hosted Australia’s Next Top Model.

Amidst the glorious chaos of her career, the star welcomed three children with her husband, who is the executive chair and CEO of Fox Corporation and chair of News Corp. 

Let’s meet Kalan Alexander, Aidan Patrick, and the couple’s only daughter, Aerin Elisabeth… 

Kalan Alexander Murdoch

Born on 9 November 2004 in Sydney, Kalan, 21, was the couple’s first child after five years of struggling to conceive and a host of miscarriages. 

He is the eighth grandchild of Rupert and has reportedly followed in his family’s footsteps, adding to its media legacy by dipping his toe into documentary filmmaking. 

While most details about his life are kept private, away from the spotlight cast over the infamous dynasty, he sometimes makes public appearances with his parents. 

Earlier this year, he walked the red carpet with his father and mother at Sydney’s IMAX cinema for the debut of his new short film, J-MAC, which follows the life of champion jockey James McDonald.

Aidan Patrick Murdoch

At 20 years old, Aidan was born on 6 May 2006, also in Sydney. He is the middle child of the couple and has widely been reported to have started spending time in newsrooms as he learns about the world of publishing and his family’s media empire.

Aidan attended The Scots College in Bellevue Hill, Sydney, which is an elite school known for educating many of Australia’s business leaders and has largely stayed out of the spotlight. 

In 2024, he joined the newsroom of news.com.au and worked there as an intern, reportedly using a pen name for his articles.

After his birth, his mum, Sarah, opened up about her pregnancy struggles and told In Style: “When you’ve been trying for that long, you just start to get your head around the fact that you may never have children. 

“I did consider adopting, yes. I think Lachlan would have been okay with adoption, but I don’t think he was at the same stage I was at. He was still thinking it would happen, while I was already thinking of looking at other options.” 

Aerin Elisabeth Murdoch

Aerin is the youngest child of the couple and is now 16 years old. She was born on 12 April 2010 in Sydney and is the only granddaughter of Rupert. 

Her birth was a major Murdoch family milestone, as she was the first girl born to Lachlan and Sarah after they welcomed two sons.

While she is focused on her schooling, away from a famous life, she is occasionally spotted attending high-profile family events, like the Sydney premiere of her brother’s documentary. 

In 2013, Sarah posed with Aerin, who was three at the time, for a photoshoot in The Weekly’s special Mother’s Day edition to highlight the work of the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
