Donna Summer, the “Hot Stuff” and “I Feel Love” singer, left behind an impressive legacy of dance party tracks, certainly earning the title Queen of Disco. But away from the stage, she was a doting mother to her three talented children.

Who is the Queen of Disco?
Born LaDonna Adrian Gaines on December 31, 1948, the performer initially got her start singing gospel, but she later joined a band and moved to New York in 1967 .
She was the frontwoman of rock band Crow, before later getting her big break in 1968 in a Munich production of Hair. Donna went on to winfive Grammy awards, including Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for her much-loved hit “Hot Stuff.”

Romantic life
Donna Summer first tied the knot with Austrian actor Helmuth Sommer in 1973. They divorced three years later in 1976, but Donna kept a variation of his last name as her stage name throughout her career. The pair welcomed one child together.
She later remarried with singer-songwriter Bruce Sudano in 1980. The couple had two children together and remained married until her death in 2012

Mimi Dohler
Born Natalia Pia Melanie Sommer on February 16, 1973, Mimi Dohler is the eldest daughter of Donna Summer and her first husband, Helmuth Sommer.
Mimi keeps fairly private, but was reportedly married to Richard Dohler in 1995, and was walked down the aisle by both her father and stepfather Bruce. She joined her siblings in accepting Donna’s award at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in 2013 and currently works as a jewelry designer.

Brooklyn Sudano
Born January 5, 1981, Brooklyn Sudano is the first daughter of Donna and her husband Bruce. From an early age, she joined her mother performing during the summertime. Brooklyn later moved to New York to attend the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and was scouted as a model for the Ford Modeling Agency.
Since then, Brooklyn has worked as an actor, model and director, working on projects like Taken‘s TV series adaptation and Cruel Summer. Her professional work took a turn for the personal with the 2023 documentary, Love to Love You, Donna Summer, which she co-directed. The actress married longtime love Mike McGlaflin in 2006 and they have welcomed one child together.

Amanda Sudano
It’s Donna’s youngest child, Amanda Sudano, who followed her mother into the world of music. Born August 11, 1982, she’s part of folk band Johnnyswim with her husband Abner Ramirez.
The pair met in 2001, but they started dating four years later and married in 2009. They released their debut EP the year prior, in 2008. They’re still performing together today, and now share three children — Joaquin, Luna and Paloma. The limelight’s never been far behind, with the family starring in the 2021 reality show Home on the Road with Johnnyswim.

An enduring legacy
Today, Donna Summer’s top tracks like “Bad Girls,” “Last Dance” and “Hot Stuff” are still hits guaranteed to get people flocking to the dance floor.
The star sadly passed in 2012, following a battle against lung cancer. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the following year.
