After sharing photos from her summer vacation with Prince Harry and their kids, Archie and Lilibet, in Portugal and at Princess Diana’s childhood home of Althorp House, the Duchess of Sussex made her debut as a judge on MasterChef Australia.

During the episode, Meghan opened up about how she likes to be addressed, what her kids like to eat, and more. She also received an unexpected video call from her husband, showing just how much chemistry the two have.

Call me Meghan

Meghan, who runs the lifestyle brand As Ever and has a Netflix series, was brought in as a surprise guest judge, filling in for former winner and judge Andy Allen. Judge Poh Ling Yeow told contestants she was thrilled to welcome a mystery guest.

“Welcome. Should I call you Duchess?” Poh asked, to which Meghan replied, “Oh, call me Meghan. Of course.”

Markle received an unexpected FaceTime call from her husband

During her appearance on the hit cooking show, Meghan talked about her love for Australia. She described the visit as something of a full-circle moment. “Oh, we’re so excited! We love Australia. We had a few wonderful, unforgettable days here. We were here almost eight years ago. That’s when we announced we were expecting Archie. So it feels like everything’s come full circle, we’re here, thrilled to be with all of you and to try such delicious food.”

The call nobody saw coming, from Prince Harry

At one point during filming, a producer walked over to hand Meghan her phone. She had an incoming video call. It was her husband, calling on FaceTime.

“Hi, my love!” she answered. “We wish you were here,” she said, explaining that Harry couldn’t make it because he was in Canberra meeting with military veterans. For his part, the Duke of Sussex complimented the studio setup, and Meghan turned the phone around to show him the “delicious” dishes and introduce him to the rest of the judges and the contestants.

What’s on the menu at the Sussex house

The show challenged contestants to prepare a dish “fit for a Duchess” using ingredients Meghan herself had picked out from the pantry: honey, macadamia nuts, citrus, celeriac, and her favorite edible flowers. While the contestants cooked, she revealed details of her kids. “

My kids eat Brussels sprouts,” she said at one point, while also revealing that there were different tastes at home. “My husband, who’s from the UK, loves meat, potatoes, and cream sauce.”

“As a proper Californian, I love grilled fish and meat, and citrus. I like to use a lot of herbs and natural spices. I love spicy food, anything with a kick.”

Meghan also said she and Harry share a love of spicy food. “He loves curry! We grill a lot, whatever’s in season. The kids eat really well, we’re lucky that way,” she said.
