Princess Ariane, 19, made her tiara debut on Wednesday evening as she joined members of her family to host Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan.

The Japanese royals marked the end of the first day of their three-day visit to the European nation by joining their hosts at a glittering State Banquet.

For her first tiara moment, Ariane chose to wear the Queen Emma’s Diamond Tiara. The stunning piece of jewellery was designed for Queen Emma, the second wife of King William III, back in 1890, the same year that William passed away.

The design consists of three harp shapes, with diamond rosette-style clusters occupying their centres, which are made of silver and gold.

There did, however, appear to be one key absence from the dinner, with Princess Alexia, the middle child of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, not attending. The 20-year-old royal currently lives in London where she is studying Civil Engineering.

The heir to the Dutch throne also stunned with her own tiara moment, wearing the Mellerio Ruby Tiara. This tiara was also made for Queen Emma, being given to her as a Christmas present from King William III alongside a host of other lavish jewels.

Not to be outdone by her daughters, Maxima looked regal in a striking gold gown that she paired with the Stuart Diamond Tiara.

The Stuart Diamond has had a long history, having belonged to both the Netherlands and England, and was previously part of a gorgeous necklace for Queen Emma. When her daughter, Queen Wilhelmina, ascended to the throne, the necklace was redesigned into a necklace.

It wasn’t just the Dutch royal ladies who wowed with their tiaras, as Empress Masako looked beautiful with her blue and gold dress, which was completed with the Princess Chichibu’s Diamond Honeysuckle Tiara.

The piece was designed in 1928 and features a design of honeysuckles. It was debuted by Princess Chichibu when she married Prince Yashuhito in 1928.
