Queen Camilla forced to make language change since marrying King Charles

Tom Parker Bowles spilled the beans about his mother Queen Camilla’s potty mouth during an appearance on Virgin Radio UK on Wednesday morning.

The food writer and author discussed King Charles’ wife’s penchant for a cheeky turn of phrase during an interview on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show.

A hilarious exchange with radio stalwart Chris ensued, during which Tom revealed how his mother has had to “revise” her language since taking the throne. 

Tom revealed that she used to tell people to “shove a lemon where the sun don’t shine” when giving cooking instructions for her famous roast chicken. Now that she’s the Queen, however, she’s had to become far more polite in her wording. 

Chris said: “You’ve mentioned your mum’s roast chicken. Give us the Queen’s recipe for a roast chicken.”

“It’s the same one,” Tom replied. “You get the best chicken you can afford. Yep. ‘Shove a… ‘place, please, place a lemon. ‘Place a lemon actually down its neck cavity’.

“She used to say ‘where the sun don’t shine’, but it’s not actually where the sun don’t shine it’s the neck.

“She’s changed!,” Chris joked. Tom replied: “I know. And then lots of butter on it and then shove it in the oven for, for what, 50 minutes, an hour and that’s it. It’s all in it. It’s so simple. It all depends on the quality of the bird.”

Queen Camilla’s down-to-earth side

Queen Camilla is known for her down-to-earth persona, bringing a touch of humour and lightness to every situation.

Camilla has openly admitted that she frequently struggles to keep a straight face during formal royal events where everyone is expected to be on their best behaviour.

The royal joked that she sometimes has to “swallow and pinch herself very hard” to keep from laughing out loud. “You have to laugh at yourself because if you can’t, you may as well give up!,” she previously said.

High-profile figures have also spoken about how funny she is. Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak famously noted Queen Camilla’s sense of humour, sharing that his abiding memory of staying with the royals was “laughing a lot” with her.

Queen Camilla’s pastimes are also surprisingly normal; she plays Wordle daily with her granddaughter, is an avid reader, and is a big fan of the long-running radio soap opera The Archers.
