Henry Ian Cusick‘s life changed when he was cast in Lost as Desmond Hume. For his role on the iconic television show, Henry, who turned 59 on April 17, 2026, was the only cast member to be nominated for an Emmy.
His career continued to take off after Lost wrapped in 2010. Henry went on to star in The 100 with Eliza Taylor and in Scandal alongside Kerry Washington. While his career has been one of much intrigue, the actor’s personal life away from Hollywood is even more interesting.
Henry lives on the Hawaiian island of O’ahu with his wife, AnnieWood, and their three sons, Lucas, Eli, and Esaú. Here’s a rare look into Henry’s life on island.
While Henry loves living in Hawaii, he is not from there. The actor was born on April 17, 1967 in Trujillo, Peru to EsperanzaChávez and Henry Joseph Cusick. He embraces many parts of his life – his mom is Peruvian and his dad is Scottish.
When Henry was just two, his family moved to Spain before moving to Trinidad and Tobago where they lived for 10 years. A few years later, when Henry was 14, the family moved to a small town outside of Glasgow, Scotland. This was where he fell in love with acting.
Henry attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama
While living in Scotland, Henry attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, but was asked to leave the school during his second year due to attendance issues. Nevertheless, his love for acting pursued.
Henry’s first acting role was as an understudy in the Christmas Panto. He went on to star in other stage productions, like The Picture of Dorian Gray, Hamlet, and The Country Wife. Through his work onstage, Henry became close friends with BrianCox.
The actor fell in love with Hawaii while filming Lost
Lost was filmed entirely on Oahu, so when Henry joined the show in 2006, he moved to the island with his wife Annie. And before long, he fell in love.
“At first, I came out here to shoot three episodes, and that’s why I got to Hawaiʻi,” he told KHON2 in January 2026.. Then the story changed. “When they didn’t kill me off after the third episode, I thought there was a possibility of coming back, and I manifested it.”
Henry was on Lost until 2010 and decided to stay on the island after the show wrapped, not just for the gorgeous views, but for the people.
“We certainly feel part of the community, the film and TV community, or even just a local community in Kailua,” the actor explained.
The same year Henry’s life was changed by Lost, he tied the knot with his wife Annie. While there is not much known about Annie, she and Henry held a civil ceremony on July 15, 2006 to celebrate their relationship. She is a theater director who has produced a few short films.
Henry and Annie have lived in Hawaii for 21 years and have built a life for their family.
“We had our sons [Lucas, Eli, and Esaú] who were six, eight and 12 at the time,” the actor explained. “They obviously consider Hawaiʻi home now because this is where they grew up.”
While neither Henry or Annie were from Hawaii, their sense of normalcy for living the island life quickly came. “When my son went to school in slippers, I couldn’t believe he was able to wear them,” Henry recalled, laughing. “That was a huge moment for me.”
And even with connections to Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, and Scotland, Hawaii is the place Henry wants to be. “I still, to this day, wake up and when I see the water, I smile,” he said. “It just blows me away that we live here and sharing this life together is really the most amazing part.”
