Hemsworth’s comments align with what many relationship experts have found through years of psychological research.

According to psychologist Lorena Belmonte García, director of Clínica Unitas, honesty is essential in any healthy relationship, but emotional security is what truly allows couples to build lasting trust.

She explains that people feel comfortable being completely themselves only when they know the relationship is emotionally safe. Trust, she says, isn’t created simply by telling each other everything, but by knowing even difficult conversations won’t threaten the relationship itself.

The psychologist also notes that honesty should always be paired with empathy. Being truthful isn’t about saying everything that comes to mind, but communicating in a way that helps your partner feel understood rather than criticized. The intention behind the conversation, she says, is just as important as the message itself.
